Here is some calligraphy I did for the story [livejournal.com profile] gryffinjack and I are writing. They are supposed to be Drogo's and Primula's Marriage Contract and Frodo's Adoption Certificate.

Marriage Document

...

I used 19"x 22" Mi Tientes paper, with a Pelikan cartridge pen, medium nib, for the calligraphy. The color is gouache and the gold is composition gold leaf.

...

The flowers around the border are primulas, and the center are agapanthus leaves in the traditional red and blue.

Here is a closer look at the signatures, and the seal of the Master of Buckland:
...

I tried to make each signature a little different. Note that Drogo and Bilbo have a similar signature, since Drogo was Bilbo's student.

The seal is two "B"s surimposed (for "Brandy" "Buck"). I made it in polymer clay first, and then used silver sealing wax.

And a closer look at the introduction to the contract:

Adoption certificate

I did the certificate in black and white on 11" x 17" layout paper, using a medium dip pen nib, and then had a copy made, reduced to 8.5" x 11" on good quality "parchement" paper. Then I used gold gouache on the letters, and red and blue .005 Micron pens to do the fine-line penwork.

Edit: For some strange reason, when I first posted this, it only posted the saved draft and not anything else--including the cut. Sorry about that.

Edit again: Well, I hope I finally have the cut working...

Wow. These are marvellous. I've seen a lot of medieval-style calligraphy done by folk in the SCA, and yours is beautifully done.

I once tried to learn calligraphy, but when I was injured (through a bear-hug, no less), I realized that my hand wouldn't be up to it. But when I see such lovely projects as yours, I regret my not learning.

Marvellous!

I am speechless. And my hubby - who is a huge calligraphy-fan - is deeply impressed, too.
